Body-image and The Third Person Effect

Thinking about body-image and how media influences negative perceptions of ourselves is one issue society faces. Disscussed in Dr. Simon Moss's Third Person Effect,"The third person effect can also amplify body dissatisfaction." Women are more susceptible to this amplification. Seeing ads portraying women as sex symbols are more towards the male audience.  Never really paying attention to these type of ads I could see how the media makes us believe that these are the types of bodies men want. It's also understandable why women try to gain the unrealistic ideal body. Media has played the various body types shown throughout and how it has not been consistent for decades. For example, women were shown to be petite all over but once Marilyn Monroe came along the body image changed to a more curvier woman. How does media know what men want? Or are the men letting media influence them what they think they like? Either way, women shouldn't shame themselves and in a perfect world everyone should empower one another instead of trying to get the body image media portrays on the television.
